IntroductionThe word "MOLECULE" comes from Latin and means "small mass or" small quantity ". The molecule of a substance is not only a small quantity, but it is the smallest quantity, but it is the smallest possible quantity of this substance. To explain this definition, let us imagine a droplet of water deposited on a plate If we divide it now into smaller and smaller volumes, we would not get a new material then; every small subdivision would continue to be water, though, in its new dimensions, it would become small enough to be invisible under the ordinary microscope. However, the moment will come when the water particle will not be able to subdivide and remain water at once. We will then have reached the dimensions of the molecule.The molecule, however, is not the smallest unit of matter. It can break it into atoms, even smaller particles that the water molecule is formed of two atoms of hydrogen and an atom of oxygen. . But it must be added that if we break up all the molecules of water contained in a glass, we would have, in its place, two gases, hydrogen and oxygen, with properties absolutely different from those of water in its liquid state.
